DIY Organizer for Dupatta/shawl or scarf

Hello everyone. Today I’m going to share with you guys an organization that I’m in love with. If you are a girl who loves mix and match in your wardrobe then you sure have lots of scarfs or shawls with you. Being in tropical country i dont have bulky shawls but i do love to throw a color on my kurtis.
Most of my collection are synthetic hence its hard to store them in one place. I have tried different organizations and this is by for the best way to organize them.

So lets get started on how to make this inexpensive storage box.

Materials:

  • Cardboard box
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Decorative paper (optional)

Box- dimensions:

The most important material is of course your box. Here I have used a box I got with my online parcel. The dimensions of the box is really important if you wanna fit it in a closet or if you gonna place all your items in one. If this is going to be placed in a closet , select a box that fits the dimension of the closet space. Im using it as an under the bed pull out storage box. Hence im going to calculate how big i need to store all my scarfs in one bin.

Take the scarf that is the biggest in your collection and fold them to 1/8 th and roll them up. Once completely rolled measure it’s dimensions.

Your compartment should be at least the size of the diameter to hold this clothes. So if your biggest one fits then the rest shouldn't be a problem. if you have bulkier once like winter wear make sure you measure them separately and adjust the grid size according. For very small scarfs you can store 2 of them in one compartment too. Make sure the height of the box is equal or little bit bigger than the height of the rolled clothes.

How to do:

Take a plain cardboard box. here im using an Amazon delivery box.

Open the box and cut the flaps.

Now we are going to use the flaps to make the grids or compartment. If you want 2 rows then use one longer flap and if you need 3, then use both the flaps.
For example lets say, i have a box that measures 20x50. and i need 2 rows and 5 columns. So i need 1 large flap and 4 small flaps. so im gonna keep 1 large flap from the box as such and the other large flap im going to cut them into 2 smaller flaps. my smaller flaps measure 20cm hence cut the 50cm flap at 20 and 40cm respectively to get 2 small flaps. so now i have 1 large and 4 small flaps.

Now to make the grids, mark each 10cm on the larger flap and 10cm on all 4 small flaps.

Mark the center of the flap and draw a line in the center. Now cut the flap fron one edge on the 10cm marks till you reach the center.
insert the flaps to make the grid as shown in the pic.Now place the grid inside the box. Tada your storage bin is ready.

You can also use this to store your socks or underwear too.
easy and most inexpensive storage bin. its ecofriendly and reusing these boxes. you can add decorative paper or spray paint them to make it look beautiful.
